Religious Education – curriculum information

Our lead teacher for RE is Mrs Thackrey.

At Pearson Primary School we follow the Local Authority agreed syllabus (Hull and East Riding syllabus for 2022). The sequence of Religious Education (RE) is based upon the Discovery RE scheme of work. Discovery RE is a comprehensive detailed lesson planning resource for Religious Education for the whole Primary School plus Nursery (3-11).

The enquiry approach makes RE exciting and engaging for both teachers and children alike.

The current edition has 64 enquiry modules. Christianity is taught in every year group, with Christmas and Easter given fresh treatment every year, developing children’s learning in a progressive way. Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism are included and there is flexibility as to which religions the school chooses to teach when.

The school has links to the Christian leaders through Prince’s Avenue Methodist Church, who host us at least twice a year, and to the local Muslim community through Hull Mosque and Islamic Centre and Pearson Park Mosque. Both of whom support visits from the school. RE lessons are further enhanced through visits to other places of worship, a range of visitors and resources that develop knowledge of ‘cultural diversity’.

See if you can Spot Paster Peter Vince as he leads the Christian service below.

I have full faith in Mrs Clarkson and her wonderful team. They have bent over backwards over the past year to make sure my daughter has an education and I know they will continue to do so. They are amazing and I am so great full for their support for my child throughout the lockdowns. They have exceeded my expectations as they always go the extra mile.

Parent's comments

I have had a lovely afternoon hearing the Year 1 children read so thank you. I was so impressed with the calmness and maturity of the children.

Comments from a volunteer reader

I would like to express my gratitude to the extent the school supports the festival of Eid Ul Adha. Not only by allowing the children a day to celebrate with their families but also by celebrating these events in the school as well.

Parent's comments

The teachers are always looking out for the children and they are nice to the children.
