Our Curriculum and Personal Development offer

Curriculum statement
Mrs Neale is our Curriculum Lead should you have any specific questions relating to our curriculum or for support regarding learning from home.
When children leave Pearson Primary School, we expect that they are academically ready for the demands of the next stage of their education and that they are highly effective at interacting with the world for the benefit of themselves and others.
Our curriculum is shaped by the five pillars of the HCAT signature and the our personal development mission. These drivers help to make our whole curriculum offer relevant and responsive for our children and their unique needs.
Our Personal Development mission:
Belonging
At the heart of our personal development offer is belonging. For us, belonging means that every child feels seen, valued, safe and included; knows who they are; understands that they matter; and feels proud of being part of our school and wider society.
- Secure enough in themselves (self worth) and their place in school to build healthy relationships, make safe choices and develop a strong sense of personal responsibility
Social
- increasingly independent in navigating friendships, social situations and the expectations of life in modern Britain
- active participants in school and community life who understand how to contribute positively to the world around them
- confident communicators who can speak, listen and interact with increasing maturity, clarity and respect
- courteous, well-mannered and considerate, understanding how to behave appropriately in school, in public and in different social situations
- respectful of difference, able to build positive relationships across cultures, faiths and backgrounds
- emotionally aware and able to manage conflict, repair relationships and make positive choices, even when faced with instability or challenge
- aware of fairness, equality and mutual respect, including challenging stereotypes, rejecting prejudice and valuing the dignity of others
We believe that the ability to articulate thoughts, listen actively, and respond appropriately is fundamental to learning and life. Our curriculum deliberately weaves communication into every subject – through structured talk, rich vocabulary, and meaningful writing – enabling pupils to become confident speakers, thoughtful listeners, and effective communicators.
Successful
Through our personal development curriculum, we want children to become:
- proud of their identity, heritage and achievements, with the confidence to see themselves as capable and full of potential
- ambitious for their future, with an expanding knowledge of careers, education pathways and opportunities beyond their immediate experience
- motivated to attend, participate and make the most of school life, including enrichment and wider opportunities
- equipped with the cultural capital and wider life knowledge needed to access opportunities that may not otherwise be available to them
- resilient learners who understand the importance of effort, perseverance, aspiration and personal responsibility
- able to make informed choices about their futures, including next steps in education and preparation for adult life
- ready for life in modern Britain, with the knowledge, character and confidence to flourish in secondary school and beyond
- able to look beyond immediate barriers or visible inequality and recognise that success, opportunity and achievement are for them
We firmly believe that all children can succeed, regardless of their starting points. Through purposeful repetition and consistent practice, we focus on embedding foundational fluency so that every child builds the skills and confidence needed for lasting understanding.
