Handwriting

At Pearson Primary School we value the uniqueness and individuality of each child’s handwriting and aim to develop a high standard of penmanship for every child.

We prioritise a firm foundation in letter formation using the RWI letter formation phrases before we begin to teach letter joins. Daily practise is key to every child’s success and this starts immediately as the children join the school.

This helpful video provides more information for parents and families.

Daily practise is an essential ingredient for handwriting success. If your child is in EYFS, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 and attends a phonics group, you will receive a daily link to the sound that your child is learning that day. This is the best handwriting practice for your child, so that they are learning the sounds that the letters make alongside forming the grapheme.

These are the Letter Phrases from RWI.

This video models all of the letter graphemes using the RWI letter formation phrases to help your child remember them.

As your child moves through school, handwriting practice continues to be important as their style develops. Oxford Owl has produced some helpful guidance so that you know what to expect in each year group. Pupils work hard to be positive role models and give support to others. They are
very proud of the work they do as restorative practitioners, play buddies and wellbeing ambassadors. This is a highly inclusive school.

Pearson Primary School has gone above and beyond the realms of every day teaching and learning in this challenging year. Thank you to the wonderful staff for all they do, both seen and unseen. Our child is happy, inspired, challenged, supported and making progress – what more could we ask for?

I have full faith in Mrs Clarkson and her wonderful team. They have bent over backwards over the past year to make sure my daughter has an education and I know they will continue to do so. They are amazing and I am so great full for their support for my child throughout the lockdowns. They have exceeded my expectations as they always go the extra mile.

I would like to express my gratitude to the extent the school supports the festival of Eid Ul Adha. Not only by allowing the children a day to celebrate with their families but also by celebrating these events in the school as well.
