Curriculum Information

Our lead teacher for music is Mrs Rusling.

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

DfE: National Curriculum

At Pearson we value a music curriculum that supports our core value of inclusion. Despite the primary focus being on the development of musical knowledge and skills through our teaching, we work hard to ensure that all children feel represented through our music curriculum and so we engage with visits, visitors, seasonal events, local events and other relevant opportunities and stimulus that celebrates our diverse community. The work of famous musicians, artists and composers will be studied and children will be given the opportunity to respond to a variety of different music from across the world.

Singing can be enjoyed by all and is experienced regularly through whole school singing assemblies and singing as part of the music curriculum in classes.

We deliver the best quality curriculum possible with the support of Hull Music Service who provide year 4 children at Pearson with the opportunity to learn how to play the clarinet during our whole class music lessons. Children in KS2 can then continue their instrumental education beyond the national expectation and access optional peripatetic music lessons at a significantly reduced rate if they wish to in years 5 and 6. We are proud that Mrs Farmery joins us every week to provide expert tuition for the children and, as a registered Arts Award centre, that we can offer Arts Awards for our children.
