Curriculum Information

Our lead teacher for history is Miss Tomlinson.

Throughout Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in History, pupils will be involved in investigating a variety of people, places and time periods both locally, within the United Kingdom and also in a Global context.

Historical knowledge and skills will be taught ensuring that children progress through the big ideas of cause and consequence, similarities and differences, continuity and change and significance.

In Key Stage 1 pupils will acquire knowledge and understanding about the lives of people in the past, including those of local, national and globally significant men and women. This will continue to develop in Key Stage 2 where pupils will gain knowledge about periods of time, including their characteristic features, their social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity. Pupils will be able to give reasons for, and the impact of historical events. They will analyse the changes that have happened as a result of these events and how they have shaped the world and their lives today. Chronological understanding is key to the understanding of History and as pupils move through Key Stage 2 they will be expected to be able to place events, people and changes into correct periods of time as well as using dates and appropriate vocabulary.

Local visits and field trips will be promoted and will be used to provide deeper learning opportunities for the children, enabling them to apply the knowledge they have gained.
