Curriculum Information
Our lead teacher for computing is Mr Knowles.
Computing is an integral part of the curriculum at Pearson Primary School, through thoughtful preparation and focused teaching; our curriculum ensures that all children are given to opportunities to develop the skills to prepare them for the developing world.
The subject encourages children to develop an understanding of how technology makes a difference in all aspects of life- at home, at school and in the workplace, as well as considering the impact technology has had on society over the years.
The teaching of computing is split into three main areas: Computer Science, Digital Literacy and Information Technology. Our long term plans are designed using a combination of purple mash units and Academy Trust designed Information Technology units, using software that is relevant to the pupils and utilised in other areas of the curriculum. Each year the children will cover all of these aspects through their work in computing lessons and the wider curriculum. Children’s understanding will develop each year and build upon the previous year’s understanding and knowledge. In the Foundation Stage the priority is to audit pupils’ technological experience to date and then to provide teaching to develop basic skills in Information Technology, in readiness for year 1. In KS1 the children will be focused heavily on Digital Literacy, whereas is KS2 the curriculum is weighted more heavily towards computer science. In computing, as with any other subject, children learn best when they are enjoying themselves and having fun. For this reason the school are using Purple Mash, an online resource that assists teachers to plan and design exciting lessons, whilst also ensuring coverage of the curriculum. Through this successful planning, children will not only enjoy their computing lessons but also develop rapidly against the curriculum aims outlined previously. This resource can also be accessed from home and teachers can set tasks for the children to complete in their own time.
Whilst the majority of the curriculum will be taught in discreet computing lessons, it is an expectation that the children will supplement this learning with the use of ICT across the curriculum. This will embed the day to day computing skills which are essential in our modern society.
